Ottawa hotel rooms
Ottawa’s position as the Capital of Canada makes it rich in history and culture. The architecture of the city is no exception to the magnificence of the city’s heritage; downtown Ottawa offers prime examples of both historic and modern architecture. You’ll find the sumptuous rooms and suites of ARC THE HOTEL are within walking distance of the best of these picturesque sites.
Just steps away you’ll find the nation’s seat at Parliament Hill. The Parliament complex is unquestionably the most recognized and one of the most acclaimed buildings in all of Canada. One of the world’s most prominent examples of Victorian High Gothic, Parliament is a must-see for any visitor to Ottawa. The East Block, home to Canada’s national government for its first 100 years, offers a glimpse of the past with four rooms restored to their 1872 form. A tour of the Centre Block will give you a peek at democracy in action, but don’t miss the view from the observatory in the Peace Tower campanile.
Nearby Parliament Hill is the Supreme Court, a fantastic example of the Art Deco style designed by Ernest Cormier in 1946. Open daily to the public, the many chambers and rooms are patterned in the classic mid-century modern style. Also nearby is the “third chamber of Parliament,” the Chateau Laurier. Serving as meeting place and home for political figures for almost 100 years, the French inspired chateau was the model for Hotel du Canada at Disney’s Epcot. Across the street, you’ll find the Government Conference Centre, originally Ottawa’s Union Station. Built in the Beaux-Arts style, it is a 3/4 replica of the Roman Baths of Caracalla, thus a half-size equivalent of the now-destroyed departures hall of New York’s Penn Station.
Modern architecture enthusiasts won’t be disappointed by the sights nearby ARC THE HOTEL. The new homes of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, National Gallery of Canada, and the Canadian War Museum are all striking examples of postmodern architecture. Garnering international acclaim, these unique buildings showcase the talents of Canadian nationals Moshe Safdie, Douglas Cardinal, and Raymond Moriyama.
Ottawa’s historic downtown offers an abundance of man-made wonders, all within walking distance of the luxury of ARC THE HOTEL’s rooms. Don’t miss the architectural wonders that the Capital city has to offer! |
